SarCoog: … to get the latest annual issue of Dave Campbell‘s Texas Football. Seriously, it had been out for over a week when I went to the West Alabama Barnes & Noble yesterday to purchase it.
For those who do not know, DCTF (the abbreviation) covers all levels of football in the state of Texas, from the smallest ’six-man’ teams to the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. In between, they also feature superb coverage of ALL college teams in the state and even the Division II and III teams get some ink in there.
On the local front, they predicted the Houston Cougars to go 10-2 with an undefeated CUSA record this and for the Rice Owls to go 6-6 after losing the likes of Jarrett Dillard, James Casey and Chase Clement.
It may be simply because I’m a football degenerate, but reading through a new issue of DCTF for the first time is one of my favorite moments of a year… am I crazy?
Who else has a story about DCTF?
While I have DCTF stories, I do appreciate his insight into the Texas Football landscape (while I read it for free at Walgreens!)
I love the time of year around the beginning of summer whenever the numerous football previews come out! It’s what really gets me through the long summer of just baseball dominating the headlines (even though World Cup qualifiers and MLS matches are WAY more compelling!)
That’s my input!
Go Coogs!

Yeah, my conscience keeps me from reading the thing for free.
My opinion is that there are two football preview magazines that do their homework and are great to read:
Phil Steele
DCTF
I’ll read Athlons and Lindys off the rack, but I’ll never buy ‘em.

I was reading DCTF at Walgreen’s, and the guy at the counter said “Hey, this isn’t a library.”
So I said, “OK, I’ll talk louder.”

DCTF says we have (“a ridiculous wealth of offensive talent”. Gotta love that.
Saw it, allthough it is more of a longhorn ad with whats his name quarterback face painting, but I guess the point is to sell magazines, and longhorns do the trick. Have the Coogs ever graced the cover, even in 82?
So Friday night I started cursing wildly and throwing beers at the TV after watching Arizona State get on their knees and start blowing the horns in the 9th. Can’t believe they did that. And then my wife said I have too much anger, that they are the TEXAS team, we live in Texas and I have no reason but jelousy to hate them so much. And so, maybe shes right, and I am going to try supporting them against LSU. But my hatred is just deep, its going to be tough.
The Coogs have graced the cover… although I can’t remember specific dates.
As much as I strongly hate the whorns, Colt McCoy is a heck of a QB in his senior season. Apparently he’s on pace to break some kind of wins record for a Division I QB.
The cover was a little much… but I can only hope Case graces the cover (at least in a shared way) next summer.

Tell her that that’s exactly what they want you to think: they’re THE University of Texas. Tell her there are more important things in life than drinking whatever koolaid is handed to you.
If that doesn’t work, remind her that LSU’s colors are prettier than UT’s. And their fans are actually enjoyable to be around. And they never cheated us out of anything.
Case is going into his Junior year right? What a great couple of years it is going to be.
So I explained to her that Coogs and Tigers are both large felines, so I have to support the Tigers, and they won last night as a result. GO TIGERS!!
Yes, Case is a redshirt Junior, meaning we’ll have two more years of watching him.
I have to say that last night’s game was one of the better ones I watched ever.
